In 1983 Malcolm Fox was commissioned by the Australian Dance Theatre to compose electronic ballet music based on stories from Homer's Odyssey. This work was also choreographed for the 'Interface' art and technology programme at the Adelaide Festival in 1984.

"Malcolm was a very adventurous student when he was in my electronic music class at the Royal College of Music, and over the years he completed a number of interesting and imaginative tape pieces. One of the best was The Journey, composed and realised in the Adelaide University studio towards the end of his life. It's a searching, rather enigmatic piece, revealing glimpses of a Malcolm Fox rarely seen on the surface. The destination of the journey is not revealed to the listener, but he knew."
